Smoking
Smoking has been around for hundreds of years. Taking that into account, the discovery of the health problems it presents are recently new. Because of that not many people are truly aware of the effects it has on the body. Two of these systems in particular take extensive amounts of damage from smoke. These are the Immune system and the Integumentary system.
Immune and Integumentary systems
These systems both play a massive role in keeping us healthy. Both systems provide homeostasis and protection from outside influences such as bacteria and infections. The Integumentary system is also known as the 1st line of defense. This is because it protects the vital organs of the body by coating them with skin. When the skin is cut and bacteria enters the body, the second line of defense begins its process. The second line of defense is the Immune system, which uses T-cells to fight bacteria and to help promote tissue healing.
